To Be An Assassin

A few days had passed since the incident. Silas had been keeping a close proximity to Lucanus.

"So how do I join the Circulum?"

"I think you have already proved yourself my friend. If it were up to me, you would already be a member. But tradition states you must pass tests of skill and strength, physical and mental to become one of us." Lucanaus said, "Are you ready to begin?"

"Where do we begin?"

"Out back, let's see just how agile you really are..."

"Wait. Before we get started, what happened to that town? The Guard was pretty set on killing everyone until they found you."

"I can't be sure. We escaped before we could save any of them. As one of us, we must learn to make the necessary sacrifices in order to defeat the Templars."

Silas furled his brow. That didn't sound right. He never expected that the Circulum would be willing to allow innocent civilians to die. Maybe there was some kind of odd reason that Silas wasn't ready to learn just yet. He still wanted to be a hero and if Casca could help him with that, then he would. "So what would you have me do"

"Come out back, we have a course for our initiates to run." Lucanus said, getting up and going to the courtyard of the villa.

He walked out, showing Silas the set of scaffolding, incomplete columns and single olive tree, ready for climbing.

Silas returned from the course without his breath. Sweat and blood dripped to the ground at a regular pace. He felt mostly successful, apart from his repeated efforts to land that last column.

"How did I do?"

"Better than most, a little shaky on that last column, but your quick thinking when the scaffolding broke proved your worth. You've passed this test. Follow me to the sparring circle."
